Wonderful instructors who really care about their students. Classes are fun but disciplined with focal points being basic skills, hand/eye coordination, respect, personal growth and responsibility. I like the added feature that hey teach the basics of the martial arts weapons, staff, chucks, sticks but all while stressing safety, courtesy and responsibility (padded weapons, of course). Adults have a more regimented curriculum. Those that like to work hard against a partner will certainly find someone to hook up with. Those learning for the first time should feel comfortable that the Universal system wants you to be YOUR best regardless of ability or age.
Pros: Something for everyone.
Cons: Parking can be crowded.

I am a beginner, never having made a fist or done a kick when I first started-- I joined this school to develop my fitness level. The instructors here have gone out of their way to help me; the fellow students are personable-- many are talented, serious martial artists. Classes start with children as young as 3 or 4 years old; adult classes have students past middle age, many of whom learn to develop physical and mental/moral skills far above those learned in other venues. The school has a deeply ingrained sense of integrity, high professional standards and rigorous training for those who desire such. Chief Instructor Levett is a 6th degree black belt who has been teaching on the Westside for over 20 years. He has an amazing rapport with students of all skill levels and all ages. The style is eclectic but focused primarily on Chinese Kempo, with imports such as Thai boxing drills, Philippine knife techniques, sparring and grappling.
Pros: Welcoming atmosphere, serious physical training, spiritual introspection encouraged
Cons: No classes during the daytime hours for adults
