Celebrating our wedding anniversary in Cripple Creek, Wines of Colorado sounded like the perfect way to top off the weekend on our way home. We have never been so disappointed. We arrived around 11:30 to find our host absolutely inhospitable. His demeanor made the "wine tasting" sour! We left the shop without experiencing the restaurant because we truly felt customers were not appreciated or welcomed. This COULD be a terrific place if the staff learned to welcome and cater to their customers.

Just had work lunch here. The weather was nice, so my party of 5 was able to sit outside - great! The outdoor seating is shaded and far enough away from Hgh 24 (didn't hear cars, only the nearby creak and the wind though the trees) to provide a comfortable, subtle "picnic" atmosphere. On the entrance level, there are wines to taste and buy. I did not partake in the tasting, but the specfic Colorado made selection appeared adaquate (there was chards, merlot, viogniers, pinots... etc.) and turns out to be a posible destination in itself. Something different from your typical wine section in the liquor store. Now, if I wasn't sitting outside, I'm not sure I'd be 100% happy with the indoor seating - it's almost an afterthough between the main entrance and the store entrance. The service was young, but plentiful, competent, and refreshing. If you're here for the wines, you may want to discuss with the experts up stairs, first. Hostess was accomodating (she escorted us to the outdoor seeting and encouraged us to pick a table that looked most inviting). We only orded burgers and sandwiches, but the waitress seemed to know what was up - knew the sides, knew the cheeses, was patient and friendly. Also, even thought we chose the spot furthest from the kitchen, our drinks were filled will. Prices were in the correct range for what I got - large, meaty Cheeseburger and side for $8 - $9. Quality of food and preparation, this is tough. I like my burgers well done - and I liked this one. I could have asked for medium. The well done patty worked since there was cheese, mushroom, and onions on top, and more than just beef in the patty (I'm guessing some red wine, seasoned salt, and worcestershire mixed in). The outside was crisp. The others also thought burgers were over done, but everyone was full and happy with the choice. There was no shortage of meat in the beef or buffalo patties. I don't think waitress asked how we wanted meat. Policy?
Pros: Atmosphere, burger mix, niche market
Cons: Indoor seating arrangement, location
